Building a Domain Controller: Windows Server AD DS Guide
Configure Window Server 2022
- Setup AD DS ✅
- Promoting Server to Domain Controller. ✅
Server Manager is where all the configuration happens.
Note: You May Change your PC NAME before Starting (Optional but Helpful)
Open it and go to Add Role and Feature
Choose “Role-based or feature-based installation” and select your server from the server pool:
Select Active Directory Domain Services from the next window
From Feature Windows, let it be default for now
Confirm your selections and proceed with the installation, and Wait for Installation to Complete, it may Restart Inbetween automatically or want you to manually restart after install
Note: Don’t by any chance select RDS Services at the time selecting AD DS to install as it will cause a problem later (from experience).Problem:- RDS Connection Broker WillNot Find the Server to Connect to . Will Eventually Install it later.
The Above Steps will Install AD DS in your Window Server, now you need to promote your server to be a domain controller , register a domain.
To Promote Your Server to Domain Controller
Click on the Homeage Flag and Promote this server option
Provide the Domain Name For ex test.in
On Next Page Provide the Password For DSRM and Let Forest Function Level and Domain Functional Level be Default Only.
The DSRM password is used when you launch the domain controller into DSRM mode. One example of when you will do this is when you need to restore a system state backup of the server.
Let it Auto Detect NetBIOS Domain Name and let it be Default Only
It Will Verify On the next page all the config may take 2–3 minutes.
Note: Be Sure Your are connected to Internet, otherwise may get a problem here related TCP/IP Protocol.
I Used Ethernet to Connect, as couln’t find Driver for WIFI
Click Install and Wait.
To Verify you should now have a profile <test.in/Administrator> and also on the Server Manager Local Server Overview Page Below your PC Name you should see Domain test.in, before above process it was WORKGROUP <some name>
